The 2024 Ryder Cup at Pumpkin Vine Golf Course delivered drama and excitement from the first tee to the final putt, as Team Messner edged out Team Bosser 7-5 in an unforgettable contest. With the tournament coming down to the last hole of the last individual match, it was Harry Gilmore’s clutch performance that secured victory for Team Messner. On the par-4 9th hole, Gilmore found himself just short of the green alongside opponent Dylan Sharp. While Sharp faltered with a misplayed chip and a disastrous three-putt, Gilmore maintained his composure, landing his chip 15 feet from the hole and sealing the match – and the Ryder Cup – with a steady two-putt.
The competition began with the 2 v 2 Best Ball format, where both teams traded early blows. Team Bosser claimed a strong win in the second pairing as Bosser and Sharp defeated Messner and Gilmore 3 & 2. Meanwhile, Monk and Petros notched a narrow 1-up victory for Team Bosser in their match after Tyler's putter turned scorched earth. However, Team Messner responded by halving the opening match and taking a key win with McGuire and Paszke’s 1-up triumph, leveling the playing field as the teams entered the second format.
In the 2 v 2 Scramble portion, the intensity only grew. Team Bosser held their ground as McGuire and Sharp pulled off a hard-fought 1-up victory. However, Team Messner struck back with a dominant 2-up win from Messner and Sorg, showcasing their synergy. With another halved match between Eyman & Monk and Monk & McGuire, the Scramble left the score tightly poised heading into the individual matches.
The singles format provided everything a Ryder Cup fan could ask for: dominant wins, gritty comebacks, and clutch finishes. Captain Bosser set the tone early, cruising to a 4 & 2 victory over Captain Messner, while Trevor Monk answered with a 3 & 2 win over Ty Monk. Sorg claimed another key point for Team Messner in a nail-biting 1-up win over Eyman. Team Bosser struck back as Mike McGuire defeated Shea McGuire 3 & 1, but Team Messner’s Paszke earned a decisive 3 & 2 victory over Petros. With the Ryder Cup hanging in the balance, the final match between Sharp and Gilmore decided it all. Gilmore’s composure under pressure sealed the deal, sparking celebrations for Team Messner.
This year’s Ryder Cup will go down as one of the most thrilling in DGA Tour history. From Trevor Monk’s stellar performance to Harry Gilmore’s clutch finish, the tournament was a showcase of skill, strategy, and heart. Team Messner’s 7-5 victory is a testament to their resilience and ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most.
